Parents using childcare are usually entitled to receive childcare benefit. This benefit is a governmental contribution to the costs working or studying parents have for childcare and is disbursed by the Dutch tax authorities (Belastingdienst).
The benefit is organised in the Dutch Childcare Law and is dependant on a couple of factors, such as your combined gross income, the number of hours the parent(s) work or study, the number of children and the type of childcare. The amount is substantial and increases significantly for a sibling. The child care benefit is paid directly to the parents by the tax authorities on a monthly basis. For more information about applying for childcare benefit we would like to refer you to the website of the Belastingdienst.
Do you want to know for how much childcare support you are eligible? You can make a test calculation here (only available in Dutch).
You have to apply for childcare benefit within three months after the month in which your child starts attending childcare. Don’t wait too long before applying, or you will miss out on (part of) the benefit. You can apply for a benefit on-line via the Mijn toeslagen section of the Belastingdienst website. You will need a DigiD for this. The ‘Mijn toeslagen’ section is only available in Dutch.
In order to apply for benefit you also need the placement data of your child(ren). These can be found in the contract you receive form us. After you have applied for childcare benefit, it will take the Belastingdienst 6-8 weeks to process your application. Also bear in mind to submit any changes that may effect your benefit to the Belastingdienst, such as a change of childcare centre or location, the number of childcare hours or a change in your (combined) income. The Belastindienst must be notified of such changes within 4 weeks.
